Arvilla asks us to consider how cultural identity is shaped and signified. What do we recognise as relating to us, and how far can these things be abstracted before becoming part of a larger whole?

Arvilla captures the essence of each place through colour and line; the saffron of the spice market in Marrakesh; the turquoise waters of the Amalfi Coast. A melee of abstracted glimpses conjures a sensation of each place, inviting us to imagine the warmth of the sun, the smells of the market or the damp, cool air off the Atlantic.

At ultimate remove in the trio of aerial outlines, Arvilla pulls away and pares back his compositions to delineate an abbreviated summary of each place; seeking a shorthand to encompass the life of each city.
